Search visibility · Antigua Guatemala

Can search engines and AI assistants understand your Antigua business?

Customers may discover a business through Google, Maps or an AI assistant such as ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity or Gemini. You cannot control every recommendation. You can make your own information clearer, easier to access and more useful to someone deciding whether to contact you.

Start with what the terms mean

Search engine optimization, or SEO, is the work of improving how your website can be discovered and understood in search engines. Generative engine optimization, or GEO, describes efforts to make a business and its information useful within AI-generated answers. Answer engine optimization, or AEO, focuses on answering the questions behind a search, including spoken questions.

These labels overlap. They are not three separate guarantees of visibility. For a local business, accurate facts, accessible pages and a credible reputation support the same practical goal: helping the right person understand your offer.

Give important facts a dependable source

State your business name, services, location or service area, opening arrangements and contact details clearly. Give your main services useful pages and answer the questions customers genuinely ask. Keep English and Spanish consistent when you serve both audiences.

A website gives you a place to maintain that information, while profiles, reviews and references elsewhere also contribute to discovery. Businesses can appear in search without a website; having your own site gives you more control over the explanations and next steps you publish.

Use technical tools for their actual purpose

Structured data, often called schema markup, describes entities and page content in a machine-readable format. It should match what visitors can read. Robots directives manage crawler access, and a sitemap helps search engines discover your pages.

Google says its generative search features do not require special AI files or special schema. An llms.txt file is optional guidance proposed for agents, not a promise of search rankings. The requirements and behavior of other services can differ. Check each provider’s documentation rather than assuming one setting covers every assistant. Build evidence and measure useful outcomes

Publish real expertise, identify the author and link to sources when they support a claim. Seek relevant local or industry references through legitimate relationships and earned coverage. Ask actual customers for honest reviews; do not invent testimonials or buy artificial mentions.

Monitor search queries, visits and qualified enquiries. AI referrals can be recorded when a source is available, but attribution is incomplete and a few test prompts are not a reliable market-wide visibility score. Judge progress through the business conversations and bookings your digital presence supports.

A practical check

  • Can someone explain your offer after reading one service page?
  • Do your website and business profiles agree?
  • Are important answers available as readable text?
  • Are you measuring enquiries as well as visits?
